The internationally active DEOS AG supplies solutions for intelligent building automation and for the optimal operation of HVAC systems in the buildings of the Police Academy Berlin Spandau in Germany. Energy consumption optimization is achieved with remote maintenance using the secure TOSIBOX® connectivity solution developed by Tosibox Oy.
DEOS implemented remote access to the police buildings in Berlin with the highest security requirements using the patented TOSIBOX® technology. The project has started with the first property, where DEOS’ central OPENweb building management system (BMS) is located. The buildings are connected with TOSIBOX® Lock 500 via the secure network in Rheine to the DEOS OPENweb in the property.
To optimize energy consumption, the energy meters are collected via the DEOS DDC (OPEN EMS) and the status and temperature values are transmitted to the central building control system via TOSIBOX®. This enables remote detection of faults and suboptimal HVAC system operation via the building management system and ability to intervene remotely from the control center. This saves unnecessary travel time to the buildings and, through better fault cause detection, the quick selection of the right external service provider.
“We were convinced by the central DEOS Building Management System – OPENweb combined with the IT security mechanisms of TOSIBOX® to network the buildings. Now we have better control over the energy consumption of the buildings and thus save money,” said Niels Mühlmann, Property Manager at Berliner Immobilienmanagement GmbH (BIM).
TOSIBOX® Lock 500i variant with integrated LTE modem was the solution for the old building structure, in which no new cabling could be laid. The high-performance TOSIBOX® Lock 500i is now connected to the central building management system. To ensure high availability, the Lock 500 is connected to the Internet in two ways: DSL and SIM/mobile. If the LTE network is not available, the connection runs over the DSL line as a hot standby solution. The Lock 500 continuously checks for the fastest connection. Moreover, the TosiOnline™ feature automatically reconnects any dropped VPN connections making the solution extremely reliable.
TOSIBOX® Virtual Central Lock is the hub of VPN connections that was used to provide two-way communication to all sites, including continuous monitoring, real-time data collection and data logging. The Virtual Central Lock cuts access management work time from days into minutes, making the management of big networks a breeze.
“Data collection and analysis allow for improved performance and create new business opportunities. Secure connectivity becomes ever more important in a world where a growing number of buildings, systems and machines is being connected to the internet. We want to ensure that secure digital connectivity is easily available, enabling the opportunities of the Internet of Everything (IoE),” says Jarno Limnéll, CEO at Tosibox.
TOSIBOX® Lock 500 is the company’s award-winning flagship product that brings unprecedented opportunities for customers to manage their operations and build new IoT solutions. The CE-certified product has just received the UL, FCC and ISED approvals required for North America, making the Lock 500 even more widely applicable.

Our products and solutions combine the areas of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and lighting to form an efficient overall system. Significant synergy effects are achieved through the use of state-of-the-art IoT and Cloud products. DEOS AG’s patented efficiency solutions ensure maximum energy savings and climate comfort. The high transparency of the DEOS solutions provides the user with comprehensive information about the building in terms of energy costs and efficiency, the condition of the technical installations and the parameters temperature, humidity and air quality. www.deos-ag.com
Berliner Immobilienmanagement GmbH (BIM), a wholly owned subsidiary of the State of Berlin, is responsible for more than 5,000 state-owned buildings and plots of land. These must be managed, operated efficiently and maintained. In addition, the 100 percent subsidiary of BIM, Berliner Energiemanagement GmbH (B.E.M.), operates and implements energy efficiency measures in the field of technical building services (Technical building equipment for HVAV) and electrical engineering. In addition, B.E.M. is to identify further potential savings through ongoing energy monitoring. www.bim-berlin.de
